Love True Love is what brings us together today. Yes, that is what I am here to talk about today. In the movie the Princess Bride you see the story of Westley and Buttercup, who realize that their love for one another is not just a passing whim, but it is true love. The story then goes on to show what the power of true love can do in the midst of danger, of seemingly impenetrable obstacles and even death. No matter what happened true love always prevailed. True love even triumphed when Buttercup thought all was lost as the king had Westley taken away from her. She thought that she would never see him ever again. Westley said to her, I will always come for you. Buttercup replied, How can you be sure? Westley then said, This is true love. Do you think this happens everyday?
In the end, true love won and Westley and Buttercup lived happily ever after. Sigh, although it was only a movie, the question is does true love really exist in real life?
How would you respond if you had someone who loved you with a love that was true? What kind of person would you be if every time you interacted with them they always encouraged you and never put you down? Someone who always accepted you for who you are even on the days that you have a terrible attitude and are just plain mean to them? Someone who never got mad at you but every time you turned around all they did was show you how much they loved you and how valuable you are to them? How would you respond if there was someone who was so in love with you that it did not matter to them what obstacle stood in the way they would come and find you? This person would always go to such great lengths even to the point of death just because they loved you and wanted to be with you. They would overcome any danger, fight any foe and be willing to look death in the face. It certainly would change your perspective in many ways. Certainly in how you view yourself.
Is it just a fairy tale?
Who in the world would be like that?
Believe it or not there is someone who is like this.
His name is Jesus.
When you were a kid did you ever go to Sunday School? Usually the song everyone would sing was Jesus Loves Me. The words are so simplistic but if you really think about those words, you will find that they are quite profound. It’s one thing to sing those words but it’s another to believe them.
Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Too often we can feel like we are not good enough to be loved by Jesus. It’s easy to do especially if you are one who always feels like you don’t do everything right. Or that you always make some sort of mistake. Or how about this one? You’ve made way too many mistakes to ever have anyone love you. Especially, God since He is perfect and sees everything, there is no way that He could love someone when He sees all the mistakes they made.
But God is not like that at all. In fact you are so valuable to Him that He sent His only Son to die on the cross for you just so that He could be in a relationship with you. When we come to Him, He takes our mistakes, He takes our mess and removes it and remembers it no more.
In the Bible, in Micah 7:18, it says this He will tread our sins beneath His feet; He will throw them into the depths of the sea.
In Isaiah 38:17 it says’ He took our sins and threw them away.
In Psalms 103 it says, As high as the sky is above the earth, so great is His love for those who honor Him.
In Hebrews 8, God says I will remember their sins no more. He casts our sins into the bottom of the sea and remembers them no more.
How beautiful is that? God loves you for you. I want to give you one more example that I once heard before. Have you ever had a crush on someone and you didn’t know if they loved you or not? So you decided to pick a daisy and then proceeded to tell yourself in picking the petals of this daisy I will know the outcome as to whether they love me or not. You then pick the petals off one by one saying they love me, they love me not. You pick every petal and when you come to the last one you either have a sigh of relief because they love you or you want to start over by picking another daisy to see if you get a different outcome other than they love you not.
Imagine this with me when Jesus died you were given a daisy. Except this daisy doesn’t have petals that say He loves me not. This daisy only has petals that say He loves me. He loves me. He loves me. He loves me and the daisy that you have been given never runs out of petals.
Jesus loves you and always will. It does not matter what you’ve done in the past. It does not matter if you made a mistake even a moment ago. His answer will always remain the same to you. Jesus loves you. My prayer for you today is that if you walk away with anything from this blog post it would be this. That you have a revelation of the love of Jesus. That you experience for yourself the length, the height, the width and the depths of His love for you. You are His most prized possession. Open up your heart today and let Him love you with a love that never runs out. A love that is not conditional but unconditional.
